The Ebola epidemic in West Africa has confirmed the socioeconomic impact of infectious outbreaks and the lack of adequate policy responses, despite the strong efforts made in the last decade.

ASSET alert: mathematics and epidemiology in Erice

In September, an international conference on mathematical and computational epidemiology of infectious diseases took place in Erice, Italy. We followed the event and collect thoughts and ideas from some researchers on several topics, from public health strategies to epidemics in animals, from risk perception to the economic aspects related to infectious diseases outbreaks.
