The third edition of the ASSET Summer School will be held at the National Centre for Diseases Prevention and Health Promotion (CNaPPS) of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) in Rome from May 30 to June 1, 2017. Pandemics (or more in general public health emergencies of international concern, PHEIC) as well as other major infectious disease outbreaks management do necessarily require a multidisciplinary approach. Public engagement that sets citizens and stakeholders as co-designers and collaborators of R&I activities can contribute to more dynamic and responsible governance of research and innovation. Public Engagement for Research, Practice and Policy conference, to be organized on November 16-17 in Brussels, calls for experts, stakeholders, policy-makers, entrepreneurs, researchers, regional authorities and Commission officials to a joint discussion on this theme.

The Verbier Festival, the most famous classical music international event in Switzerland, will host an ASSET event on July 30^th 2016, a public workshop dedicated to Science and Music. Moreover, a "Conference&concert" open to the general public will be organized alternating talks about epidemics/infectious diseases and a piano concert by an international artist.

ECDC will held a scoping meeting to identify key gaps in applied preparedness research in Europe, and to identify strategies to promote interactions between research and practitioner communities. The findings of the meeting will inform ECDC activities in the coming years.
